Frequently Asked Questions

Why Coaching?

Because deep down we know we are capable of more. The question we face is how to find out what that is and how to achieve it. That’s what Coaching is all about.

How can Coaching help me?

Coaching can - help you to navigate your way through a crisis
- help you to find a new direction
- help you through a personal or professional transition
- help you get the results you are looking for
- provide you with a partner to hold you accountable to tackle the obstacles which have   been standing between you and the feeling of greater success

How do I know for sure that I need a Coach?

You feel ready for a change
You know you are capable of more but don’t know what it is
You feel a gap between where you are now and where you want to be
You are ready to take action to create the next chapter in your life
You are willing to grow

How does the Coaching process work?

We begin by becoming acquainted. The Coach answers any questions or concerns and explains the structure of the coaching and the procedure (time, day, how often, where, confidentiality, etc.). The potential client’s background, current situation, challenges and goals are explored through a process of questioning by the Coach. When it is clear that the individual chooses to work with the Coach, discussion about the objectives of the Coaching process is begun. A Coaching Plan – or Alliance – is created between the Coach and the client describing just how the process will proceed including how progress through various stages will be measured. An agreement is signed between the Coach and client concerning costs, method of payment, etc. And the Coaching begins.

How long does the Coaching process take?

That depends on the client’s level of commitment, how serious the client is about discovering what it is s/he wants to accomplish, and how willing the client is to identify, confront and create the best outcome or solution. It often takes anywhere from three months to a year. For Coaching not only deals with the initial reason the process originally began, but also with whatever may come up along the way – who the client is as well as what the client is doing.

How can you Coach me in my business if you haven’t had direct experience in my industry?

Very simply. Coaching is based on the interaction between people. These issues are the same from industry to industry, from for-profit companies to the non-profit sector, and through the professional and academic worlds: morale, accountability, values, respect, communication, interpersonal relationships, management skills, etc. Coaching is about people and the issues they face.

What should I look for in a Coach

Someone with experience who can provide references, who trained with a reputable training school, like the Coaches Training Institute (CTI) of California, who belongs to the International Coaching Federation (ICF) and most importantly, someone with whom you feel comfortable.

Suppose we don’t live near one another. Isn’t that a problem?

Absolutely not! Coaching can be done in person if it is convenient. However, most coaching is done over the telephone; no time wasted in traffic, no gas wasted on driving and no problem parking. In today’s international environment and with today’s technology, initial contact is as simple as an email away. From there we design into our coaching alliance, the very best way to continue working together; phone, email, occasional face to face, any combination that works and whatever the situation needs for you to receive the attention you deserve and reach the results you want no matter where you may be; across the street, in another city or around the world. Distance need never be a factor.

Is Coaching the same as counseling?

No. Counseling and psychotherapy concern themselves with healing past issues that are creating current emotional problems. Coaching focuses on the client today to create a better present, identify future possibilities and work toward the outcomes. It is action-oriented and considers that the client is creative, resourceful and whole – now. Whenever an issue surfaces that indicates the need for therapy, the client is referred to a therapist or counselor.
